Have a working definition of what CAD and .STL files are.
Be able to import and perform basic modifications to an existing CAD object in .STL format.
Be able to compose an original complex model in TinkerCAD.
Educate students on Library Resources for 3D printing.

What is 3D Design? Learn what a CAD file and an .STL file are.
Learn how to troubleshoot and modify 3D objects you find on the internet.
Learn how to submit your 3D design to the Library Makerspace for 3D Printing.
Learn how to create original and complex designs using the TinkerCAD program.
This workshop will involve hands-on design with the computer program TinkerCAD. Participants will receive a walkthrough on how to find 3D models online, import, modify and export them. The workshop will proceed with a walkthrough for designing an original 3D model in TinkerCAD and exporting it for 3D printing. The workshop will finish with ample time for experimentation and exploration of the concepts and techniques gained. Additionally, information will be provided on the different types of 3D printing, available 3D rendering software, and examples will be provided for academic and commercial uses. Specifically, we will discuss the 3D printing services available in the Library Makerspace.
