Make with 3D Printing (Intro) In-Person / Online

This workshop will provide participants with a hands-on introduction to CAD (Computer-Aided Drafting) for 3D printing. Specifically, we will discuss FDM (fused deposition modeling) 3D printers, the types of software used for 3D rendering, and use cases for 3D printing, both academic and commercial. We will discuss 3D printing services and resources available online and on-campus focusing on the Library Makerspace. Additional topics include best practices for 3D design, submission, and production with various tips and tricks. This workshop will involve hands-on design with the computer program TinkerCAD. Participants will receive a walkthrough on how to find 3D models online, import, modify and export them. The workshop will proceed with a walkthrough for designing an original 3D model in TinkerCAD and exporting it for 3D printing. The workshop will finish with ample time for experimentation and exploration of the concepts and techniques gained. No experience necessary, all ages and skill-levels are welcome!
