Make Laser-cut Business Cards In-Person / Online

Learn to use TinkerCAD (a web-based 3D-modeling tool) to design your own business cards. Learn how to engrave and cut small batches of custom business cards out of watercolor paper using the Makerspace’s Glowforge Plus laser cutter/engraver. This workshop is somewhat of an advanced hands-on introduction to designing for lasercutting. Recommended 'soft' prerequisites include either of the introductory 'Make with 3D printing' workshops, but these are not required. Participants will receive a walkthrough on how to find more complex lasercutting files online, as well as how to import, modify and export them. The workshop will proceed with a walkthrough for designing an original business card in TinkerCAD and exporting it for lasercutting. We will address pertinent vocabulary words and how to optimize a balance between TinkerCAD's strengths and weaknesses. Additional topics include Library and external resources, best practices for modeling, and various tips and tricks to optimize the lasercutter's performance.
