Understand what is meant by "generative" AI and discuss frameworks like data feminism Discuss the biases and other problems inherent in AI systems
While AI tools have the potential to make the research and writing process easier and possibly faster than previously imagined, many of the people touting these tools use hyperbole about them, as they have in previous iterations of emerging technologies. We will examine exactly what generative AI is, its associated biases and other inherent problems in this workshop through a critical lens, using Critical AI Literacy (CAIL) and data feminism. We may discuss how this technology is impacting the university community in a variety of ways, This will be a discussion-based workshop. We will have some slides and/or demo a few tools or guides, but we also want to hear from you, the participants, about these topics. Come with your lunch, your questions, and your experiences.
