Cleaning up your Messy Data: An Open Refine WOrkshop - Matthew McEniry and Shelley Barba In-Person

2-3 Learning Outcomes (based on ACRL Framework Knowledge Practices or Dispositions http://www.ala.org/acrl/standards/ilframework) :

1. Attendees will be introduced to what OpenRefine is and how to use it.

2. Attendees will be introduced to data management concepts.

3. Attendees will do exercises on mock data to enhance their capabilities in OpenRefine.

Abstract: This workshop will introduce the capabilities of OpenRefine, a program that is used for exploring, normalizing, and manipulating tabular data. This workshop will teach the basics of this program, including how to import, clean up, discover inconsistent values for, and enhance the usability of data.
