Abstract:
Researchers are dealing with more and more data in their routine work. Although many tools are available, Excel spreadsheets remain an indispensable part of data management. Excel handles a variety of data formats, transforms raw data into other formats for further analysis, and has important features for summarizing and visualizing data. This workshop aims to develop Excel skills. Part 1 of this workshop will use some example datasets to demonstrate these Excel features: PivotTable and PivotChart. (Part 2 of the workshop will demonstrate Power Query, Power Pivot, and Data Model.) This session will expect that attendees have at least basic familiarity with Excel. The methods of analyzing and visualizing data will be practical for attendees at the beginner or intermediate level. This workshop is open to people of any academic status—graduate, undergraduate, faculty, or staff. Attendees are invited to bring their own laptops to follow along with hands-on learning.
