Abstract:

Students reading a scholarly article or a research paper for the first time, usually find it really challenging.  Unfortunately for them, some professors assume they will follow and learn by osmosis, and do not take the time to explain the process but concentrate on training and /or inculcating in them the skills necessary to conduct experiments in the labs.   This workshop is geared towards students in the Honors College who are engaged in, or going to be engaged in, the undergraduates research program culminating in presentations at local and national undergraduate research conferences. This workshop is also geared towards seniors and new graduate students whose work involves reading research papers and writing for their senior projects, theses or dissertations, or for publication. They will learn how to read and synthesize information from a scientific paper and also about information ethics in the writing process.
