Systemic Reviews: Path to Publishing a Journal Article Workshop- Erin Burns, Innocent Awasom, Amy Dye-Reeves, Jenni Jacobs, Brian Quinn ONLINE

-Conduct a systematic review in their research area

-Use any desired citation reference manager to do so

-Learn publishing options of systematic review studies to include as part of thesis or dissertation or a journal article.

This is an ongoing writing workshop series for those who would like to write a systematic review for a topic area. The STEM, Graduate and Education Librarians will be there to help support you in the writing and research processes, providing space for research as a writing group, with the goal of publishing a journal article or inclusion in a thesis/dissertation. Systematic Reviews (SRs) are summaries of published materials in a particular area through a reproducible process or protocol such as PRISMA, Cochrane and Dempster. While SRs have all the characteristics of a literature review, they do not seek to create new knowledge, but rather to synthesize and summarize existing knowledge by focusing on research that reports data rather than concepts or theories. SRs have been used widely in the health sciences, but more recently other disciplines such as agriculture, education engineering and the social sciences have seen a rise in SRs and related research methodologies. The first session will be a discussion and presentation about what systematic reviews are. Second session will focus on you as the researcher, working with you to discover the databases for your fields and walk through the different databases and protocols that you may need or want to use. Further discussions will be on the process itself, organizing information and the tools for organizing your research, and directed from the people participating in the series.
